Tetris Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show nears, one notices a demand to include additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is a necessary evil in the world of gaming, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
