Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then found numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
An important official commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
